Open Doors

Ever wondered how a professional dancer trains or how those elaborate costumes come together for a ballet production? If you have, or you are just curious about how a professional ballet company works, then join us for an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Queensland Ballet as we open our doors to the public.

Open Doors includes: a visit to the historic Thomas Dixon Centre in West End, an informative talk about the history of the company, the opportunity to watch the dancers in class and a display of costumes.

SCHOOL STUDENTS and DANCE STUDIOS

Time: 10 -11.30am
Cost: $10 per student
Venue: Thomas Dixon Centre, Cnr Drake St and Montague Rd, West End

GENERAL PUBLIC
Date: Thurs 14th July, 2011
Time: 10 -11.30am
Cost: $12 per person ($10 for school aged children, $5 for children under 6 yrs)

Student Achievements Term 1 2011

Amber Bartlett — Has commenced her first term with the Grade 10 Queensland Dance School Excellence dance program.

Jacinta Eaves — Has commenced her first term with the Grade 11 Queensland Dance School of Excellence dance program and they have awarded her the Patricia MacDonald Memorial Foundation Scholarship.

Essie Horn— Has commenced her first term with the Grade 11 Queensland Dance School of Excellence ballet program.

Queensland Ballet Worlds Largest Ballet Class

Queensland Ballet is challenging the record for the World’s Largest Ballet Class as part of their commitment to putting Brisbane on the international dance map. If you are over six years of age, now is your chance to secure your place in the Guinness World Record books.

Come along on Sunday 22 May and join Queensland Ballet dancers on the Kurlipa Bridge in South Brisbane for a 30 minute basic, but fun classical barre class starting promptly at 9am. Dancers of all ages and levels are encouraged to register and help beat the current record of 1,055 participants set by Staatsoper Hannover in Germany last year.

So gather your friends, family and anyone you think can participate and bring some ballet into your lives. Finish up the morning with some breakfast while getting to know Queensland Ballet dancers.

So if you’ve ever dreamed of dancing on a bridge in ballet shoes, please register online today to help us dance to our goal of 2,011 participants in 2011! Registrations will be available on the day only if the limit of 2,011 participants has not been reached. To secure your place book online. This event is part of the 2011 Ideas Festival program. Student News / Achievements Term 4 2010

Premier Dance will be opening another branch at Clayfield in 2011. PLEASE SEE THE MILTON OFFICE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Congratulations to Miss Ivah and her husband who are expecting their 2nd child in January.

Welcome to Miss Paige who has taken over Miss Ivah’s classes, while she is on leave.

Abby Johnson (past student) is completing her Bachelor of Arts (Dance) Honours.

Miss Alex completed her Bachelor of Primary Education.

Miss Tess has been placed as a GAP YEAR student working in a boarding school in England.

Aeden Pittendreigh spent 6 months with the Professional Year Program with The Queensland Ballet Company and has commenced his training with the Royal National Ballet School in London. He was also offered placement at The Houston Ballet School and The Joffery Ballet School.

Harry Hillcoat participated in The Qld Ballet’s Junior Extension Program and The Australian Ballet Schools Interstate Program.

Congratulations to Essie Horn and Jacinta Eaves for being accepted into the Queensland Dance School of Excellence in 2011.

Congratulations to the junior ballet school on 100% graded examination success, and to the Vocational ballet students, who sat their exams second session also with 100% success!

Well done all Ballet, Jazz and Tap students who all successfully completed tests this year.

Australian Open Ballet Class

Tania Whelan (PDA Principal), Charlotte Walker (PDA Teacher) and senior PDA ballet students had the priviledge of watching an open ballet class performed by the Australia Ballet on Monday 1st March.

Congratulations Aeden!!

We would like to congratulate Aeden Pittendreigh, for being offered a place in Queensland Ballet's Professional Year 2010. We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him dancing on stage next year with Queensland Ballet.

Congratulations to Aeden Pittendreigh who received a Distinction (90%) for his Advanced 2 Boys Exam. Aeden has also been one of the few selected to perform with the Paris Opera Ballet while they are on Tour in Brisbane. Well Done Aeden!!

Aeden will be sitting his Solo Seal exam on Sunday 16th August. Premier Dance wish Aeden all the very best with this upcoming exam!

Student News / Achievements

Congratulations to the following students on their University placements:
Sarah Maunsel Q.U.T. Bachelor of Creative Industries & Bachelor of Business and
Louisa Boscaini Q.U.T Bachelor of Creative Industries Major in Music Minor in Dance.

Madeleine Skippen (Grade 4/5) and Louisa Scott-Young (Grade 3) were selected to be part of the Brisbane City Youth Ballet.

Aeden Pittendreigh (Adv 2) has been invited to take classes with Queensland Ballet Company. Aeden also completed his first year of Q.D.S.E. (Queensland Dance School of Excellence), as well as receiving QDSE Encouragement Award for 2008.

Harry Hillcoat (Inter-Found) is a student of the Australian Ballet Interstate Student Program and Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Program.

Jacinta Eaves (Intermediate) attended the Australian Ballet Summer School during the Christmas School Holidays.

Dymphna Carew A.R.A.D. is currently dancing with the company Disney, Disney Land, Tokoyo.

Abby Johnson A.R.A.D. completed her second year in Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Dance at Q.U.T.

Sarah MacNamara A.R.A.D completed her third year of Bachelor of Dance/Bachelor of Training at Q.U.T.

Emma-Kate Clyburn nee Lock (Adv 2) completed her Bachelor of Biomedical Science Honours Degree in Developmental Biology at the end of last year. She also was recently married in December last year.

Charlotte Walker (past Adv 2 student and current teacher) has completed her first year of R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) teaching program, she will be completing her final year of this program this year.

Ali Smeal (Adv 1) has been very successful with her singing career this year and has made it to the Top 40 in the 'MusicOz' Competition.

We would like to congratulate Intermediate Foundation students; Laura Williams, Marcia Penman, Sophie Clarke, Katie Cooke, & Jacinta Eaves, and Intermediate students; Essie Horn and Georgina McNee, who successfully completed their R.A.D ballet exams in 2008.

We would also like to congratulate the junior ballet school on 100% graded examination success in 2008!
